LB # 13 Teaching with Visual Symbol

Visual symbols include drawings, cartoons, strip drawing, diagrams, formulas, charts, graph, maps, globes.

Drawing may not be for real thing but better to have concrete visual aid than nothing. So, to avoid confusion, it is good that our drawing correctly represent the real thing. So, as a teacher we should know how to doing simple freehand sketching.

Another useful visual symbol that can bring novelty to our teaching is the cartoon. Cartoon tells its story metaphorically. The perfect cartoons needs no caption.

In teaching visual symbols it takes time in preparing and learning. Specially when you use the charts, graphs, maps and globes. The collection, preparation and use of these various visual symbols depends to a great extent on our own resourcefulness and creativity. They may be use in different ways and in different phases of the lesson depending in your purpose.
